Happy holiday season! The end of the year is the time for spending. People of different faiths spend cash on gifts for people they love, or at least like, or at least work with and are cordial to. During this holiday season, consider supporting the Southern economy by shopping local! Artisans throughout the region need your support, and you need their one-of-a-kind art to impress family and friends. See, everyone wins!
I generally focus on Atlanta artists specifically but I’ve come across some cool artists from across the region that are worthy of recognition. Not everyone is fortunate enough to live in Atlanta *wink.* We’re breaking the Southern Cliche one recycled art piece at a time and it’s so beautiful.
Green Art Studios- Winter Park, FL
I had never seen work like Di St. Jacques-Blue. The color and textures of her floral creations were striking and fanciful. I think I actually said, “Oh, wow…” when I turned the curb into her booth at an art festival. Flowers and plants of the most magnificent hues and sizes decked the walls and planters of her cozy space. It was like walking into a scene from Fern Gully. Each piece is made of “waste plastic and waste paint.” St. Jacques-Blue artwork is the ideal gift for someone who likes traditional decor with a twist. Colorful, fun, and truly eye-catching!
Visit her studio at 1313 Medinah Court, Winter Park, FL 32792. Call 407.927.8685 to arrange an appointment.
Kathy Walton Art- Marietta, GA
I met Kathy Walton at the Norcross Arts Festival in October. She was an incredibly energetic woman, considering that it was nearly 5pm on the last day of the festival. After chatting with her a bit, I was glad to support such a kind and perky artist.
Walton’s artwork consists of recycled steel and ceramic sculptures that are “On the Edge of Wild.” The subjects are generally wildlife, with a few funky stick stick people tossed in for good measure. Her art is whimsical and makes the perfect gift for someone is is creative, quirky, and a big fan of unique forms.

KensArt Creations- Nashville, TN
Have you ever seen artwork and thought, “Wow. That must’ve taken forever to finish.” That’s what comes to mind when I see the recycled magazine collage art of Charla Steele.
KensArt Creations is art that looks tediously stunning. Everyday articles–magazines, paper, glue– are transformed into fun works of art. Various sizes and themes are available, making Steele’s studio a one stop shop for art fans of multiple tastes.
